Specifications

Introducing the latest innovation in field meteorology from Warren-Knight Instrument Company. The ECMET System integrates three components into one easy to use and compact meteorological system.
The ECMET system features two unique design features. First, is the 15-690 adapter. This accessory allows the Kestrel to be attached to the theodolite in one of two mounting orientations which allows for either single reading use or continuous reading use. Next is the data switching multiplex component. This allows data from the hand held weather station and from the theodolite to be seamlessly integrated.

By using the PDA System Model 90-5395 with Kestrel interfacing software, the operator can eliminate any possible errors in reading, recording, and calculating data to determine a MET message. The PDA reads, records, and calculates the data message in near realtime making the information available for immediale use, transmission, or storage.

The advantage of the Warren-Knight ECMET system is that the operator does not need to manually enter surface level weather conditions into the program - this is done automatically using the 15-690 adapter and data multiplexer. This system allows the operator to collect weather data from the Kestrel with the press of a button. Once ‘automatic” is selected on the screen simply hitting “next” will populate all available fields. Additional data, such as latitude and longitude can also be manually entered. This weather data is used to correct upper air wind speed and direction providing a more reliable MET message.

Specifications

The Warren-Knight Electronic Mechanical Meteorological Theodolites, Series WK-20- 9500 is designed for fast and accurate recording of azimuth and elevation angles in various types of applications and conditions. The compact design and the rugged construction make this the perfect instrument for first response field MET operations. The WK-20-9528 features two segmented LCD display panels for reading azimuth and elevation angles electronically and one set of optical mechanical scales for reading azimuth and elevation angles manually. This redundancy ensures uninterrupted data acquisition. The EMMT also features two innovative modes of operation: Operation in Mode A - or “Swing Mode” - allows the user to track balloons overhead without having to index the instrument 180 degrees - the azimuth and elevation angles are automatically corrected on the electronic display once zenith is passed. This feature allows the operator to continuously track a balloon when passing over - head. If Mode 0 - or “Standard Mode” - is selected, the azimuth and elevation angles will not he corrected if the scope passes through zenith. This feature’s useful for instrument orientation or to use the instrument as a survey theodolite.
